Did You Know?: The Eucharistic Miracle of Laciano, Italy

Hey! Did you know? Around 750 AD., at a monastery called St. Longinus, a monastic priest was having doubts about the Lord’s presence in the Eucharist. One day, he was celebrating Mass and at the words of the consecration the host turned to flesh in appearance and the wine turned to blood. He quickly called the astonished congregation up to the altar to see for themselves.

Saint Quotes on the Eucharist: St. Cyril of Jerusalem

“Do not, therefore, regard the bread and wine as simply that, for they are, according to the Master’s declaration, the Body and Blood of Christ. Even though the senses suggest to you the other, let faith make you firm.”
- St. Cyril of Jerusalem

Jesus, My Life

I don’t walk to Communion looking around anymore but I walk up the aisle toward my Bridegroom who is giving himself to me. Imagine, my God lets me hold him in my hands. I gently and deliberately place Him in my mouth. We have the most intimate conversations during those few minutes after I return to my seat and the peace that envelopes me nourishes my soul as earthly food nourishes my body.

Life Teen Staff Picks: Daily Mass

At first I was irritated that someone would have enough nerve to come up to me and say that I should be going to daily Mass. After all, wasn’t Sunday Mass enough? But it got me thinking, “Why would I be irritated at someone suggesting I go to Mass every day?” I realized that the reason I was irritated was because she was speaking the truth and I did need to be going to Mass more often.

A Full Contact Sport: Why Participate in Mass

Here in South Bend, people get pretty pumped over Notre Dame football. They dress in blue and gold, paint their faces, prepare food all night for the tailgates, even get up early. When the game starts, the crowd goes nuts! Cheers. Standing. Sitting. High fives to strangers you don’t know. We are fully engaged in the event. I wonder what would happen if we participated with the same heart and passion at Mass on Sunday?

Let’s be honest. Mass … it’s boring, right? Growing up, that’s what I thought.

Saint Quotes on the Eucharist: St. Francis of Assisi

“Everyday, Jesus humbles Himself just as He did when He came from His heavenly throne into the Virgin’s womb; everyday He comes to us and lets us see Him in abjection, when He descends from the bosom of the Father into the hands of the priest at the altar.” – St. Francis of Assisi

Incomplete Without the Eucharist

I went with Katie the next week … and then again the following week. That piece of bread had the attention of a whole auditorium of people, it had to mean something. Unknowingly I followed her to a moment with Christ that would change my life. Before Adoration, the priest described what we were about to encounter. While I was sitting there, for the first time in my life I allowed myself to be found by God. And for the first time told him where I was. I heard him speaking in His quiet voice, “Stop looking. You are home”.

Saint Quotes on the Eucharist: St. Therese of Lisieux

“Do you realize that Jesus is there in the tabernacle expressly for you – for you alone? He burns with the desire to come into your heart … don’t listen to the demon, laugh at him, and go without fear to receive the Jesus of peace and love …

Receive Communion often, very often … there you have the sole remedy, if you want to be cured. Jesus has not put this attraction in your heart for nothing …”

- St. Therese of Lisieux

Quotes on the True Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist [PDF]

Our belief as Catholics in the True Presence of Jesus, body, blood, soul and divinity in the Eucharist sets us apart from nearly every other Christian religion because it’s so radical. This one belief is hard to accept; even some of Jesus’ disciples left Him when He said He was truly present in the bread and wine. However, this is a facet of our faith that has been believed since the very early Christians, some who even died because of it. We put together a mini-poster PDF for you with quotes Read more [...]

The Mass and The Eucharist: Our Fall Theme

So that’s it. Our summer theme of friendship is over. We’re never going to talk about friends again so I hope that you were completely satisfied with everything we did. That sentence was sarcastic.

This sentence isn’t: Our fall theme is the Mass! And you can’t talk about the Mass without talking about the Eucharist, so that’ll be a big part of our theme too.
