I’m a Wimp.

2012-11_LT-MissionsWimp

The hike started out great, we literally walked down 500 steps. Then the scary part came. We had to cross over these HUGE boulders with water below us. Now the water wasn’t moving any faster than say the way water would come out of a garden hose but for some reason I became completely paralyzed and my hands and legs were shaking.

I wouldn’t take that first step of faith even though my sisters were lovingly encouraging me along. Eventually, after a lot of convincing, I took the first step . . .

Lion and Lamb

A song we often sing during praise and worship is “How Great is Our God” by Chris Tomlin. A line that really sticks out to me in that song is one that calls Christ “lion and lamb.” After reflecting on this line, I realized that Jesus, by being both lion and lamb, is the perfect example of masculinity. He is strong and bold and brave and mighty and wise like a lion, but He is also kind, gentle, joyful, sweet, tender, and innocent like a lamb. He isn’t cowardly or fearful and too lamb-like,

Why So Quiet?

At the beginning of January, all of the first year missionaries went on an eight-day silent retreat. This retreat was very challenging for me, but God moved in ways that I would’ve never expected Him to. I realized how much humor God and I have in our relationship, whether it was through contemplations on scriptures or playing catch by myself out at the wiffle ball field. Missionary’s Risk

For Christmas, I was able to go home for the first time since our formation year at Covecrest began in September. I was so excited to go home and see my family, and it was great. I have a great relationship with my family, so it was truly a blessing to be able to spend two weeks with them. I got to go to midnight Mass on Christmas Eve with my mom at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis, which was celebrated by Archbishop Sheehan. (Definitely the coolest mass I’ve been to in a while!) I got to

Do Not Be Afraid!

Let’s face it, I am a big pansy. I am afraid of everything. I don’t like rollercoasters, I don’t like scary movies, and my biggest fear is skunks. Of all things! I’m a big chicken. So reading Scripture today I was struck by Psalm 27 where it said, “The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?” Being such a baby, how was I not too scared when God led me to be a missionary? Well, the truth is, I WAS pretty scared. I had
