The Church is Alive
This is an exciting time to be Catholic. Many may think this is a dark time for the Church but the Church is in the light. I think Pope Benedict made such a humble decision knowing that due to his health he cannot be at his best to guide the Church. Here are 2 of my favorite quotes from him:
“Dear friends, Truth is not an imposition. Nor is it simply a set of rules. It is a discovery of the One who never fails us; the One whom we can always trust. In seeking truth we come to live by belief
Drop Everything Now
What does it mean to say YES? This has been the question that has been encompassing my every thought. I’ve been writing the word YES on my hand everyday for the past few weeks. When I don’t want to wake up in the morning, or love someone in my community the way they deserve to be loved then I glance down at my hand and remember. But, am I really going to take all that comes with a YES? I'm finding out slowly what my YES to Life Teen Missions means.
For me it means:
Loving when I'm tired,
Taking
“In Silence”
To start off the new year, we had the incredible opportunity to do an eight day silent retreat. Going in, I had no idea what to expect. Eight days of silence and solitude sounded kind of miserable. But, as soon as I shut the door to the world by committing to seeking only God during that time, I found a totally new depth in my faith.
A few days in, I was so full of joy, I was literally bubbling over. I had a smile I could not suppress. I was so happy I covered my face, worried that I might distract
You are Missionary !!!
I am a Missionary. I’ve committed to two years being a missionary with Life Teen Missions. For me that meant leaving my home country of Germany again and moving to the middle of nowhere, to a place called Covecrest.
I am blessed to live in a Catholic community and to be able to serve our community.
One of the things we do is meeting people from our neighborhood. We just knock on their doors and talk with them. Often they are a bit lonely or they can’t leave their homes because they have
With great delight I sit in His shadow, and His fruit is sweet to my taste
I had been feeling run down recently and tired from our work and frustrated in prayer, I grew anxious and irritable. I couldn't focus on anything for very long and I found myself pushing God away. So, I decided to go back to the basics: God is love and I am His beloved.
A prayer I often hear in my heart is "I am yours and you are mine." It's Jesus seeking to have my whole heart. In doing work projects and retreats and searching for comfort in them I lost my place of comfort in God. I lost my union
More than A Song!
In the fall of 2005 I was a senior in high school and involved with FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) at my school. We would meet once a month in our auditorium for about 45 minutes. I still remember that at these meetings is where I truly learned how to pray with music. I remember "Tell the World" by Hillsong was the first song that I really recognized I was praying rather than singing. I had been on plenty of retreats and conferences throughout high school before I started going to these meetings,
When the going gets tough, the tough…fall on their knees & pray
Part 1. Lessons being learned
Transitions are difficult. Don’t get me wrong, I think starting a new chapter in the book of your life is great, but I also know that for me it rarely is a walk in the park.
I have been living in Haiti for 1 month and 4 days now. It has been a hard transition.
Some things I have personally found to be challenging:
Culture shock
Being homesick
Being the only one in the beginning stages of knowing the language while the rest of the team has a pretty
“It’s Been Years Since I’ve Been to Confession!”
I hear that all the time. As a missionary with Life Teen, I am blessed to be on retreat almost every weekend. No matter what type of retreat I go on, one of the most powerful moments of every weekend is watching people who have not be to confession in years finally go.
Just last week, I met a girl who told me it had been years since she had been to the sacrament. She told me how nervous she was, how she didn’t remember what to say. With a little encouragement, she slowly walked up to a priest
What Is Love?
What is love? No not the song, but today in our society we feel that love is a box of chocolates, a dozen roses, or sneaking out to your sweet hearts house in the middle of the night. I got news for ya’ll, this is not love. Love is the cross; it's Christ! “Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love” (1 John 4:8). Boom! It’s right there, God is love! So, now we know what love is but how do we show it? We must love one another. To love someone is to be Christ to them. Since
“I’m a Hard Hard Worker Everyday”
Most people who come to Covecrest think us missionaries have it pretty good. They're right. It's the best life ever. I can't imagine myself being or desiring to be anywhere else. "There's no place I'd rather be," in the words of Will Regan - one of our favorite worship songs. A great life and an easy life are different though. Being a Life Teen Missionary at Covecrest is definitely great, but it is not easy. This past week especially is a testament to that.
A lot of churches in our area have Confirmation
