Celebrate Easter!

Easter day seemed a little more special for me this year. I’m not entirely sure why, but I think it’s mostly because of the ways that I’ve drawn closer to the Lord this year as a missionary, especially in prayer. It hasn’t been the easiest year of my life, but it has been incredibly blessed! Journeying with Jesus in prayer and in Scripture has brought me to a place where I feel closer to Him than I ever have before, so there was so much to celebrate as we remembered Christ’s resurrection on Easter!

We MUST Serve the Poor

While visiting my family in Melbourne, FL for Easter, I was compelled to spend a couple of days serving the hungry at a soup kitchen called The Daily Bread. I met a woman named Shay who has three children of age 10, 9 and 6.  Shay is working towards becoming a pharmacist.  The Dad is no longer in the picture and she is at risk of losing her kids to the court due to lack of funds to take care of them.  She told me, “Maybe if I can figure out how to be forgiven, then God will hear me and

You are not a Butt Munch, You are Beloved

Have you ever seen a man digging through a trash can to find leftover food for dinner?  It’s a sad sight.  Many of us let it be only that, a sad sight.  We are moved to pity and then let it be what it is.  A bold few say a prayer.  A bolder few offer their pocket change. Saturday, March 9th 2013, I spent the whole day on a retreat with teenagers who are just learning the basics of the faith.  Inner-city teens who are hearing, maybe for the first time, that they are sons and daughters of

God Speaks Clearly

God speaks clearly. Does He really? Just last night I had a conversation with one of my missionary sisters about this. We talked about how sometimes we wish that God would just speak more clearly: that He would tell us exactly what He wants of us, what He’s calling us to, and what He has planned for us. We know that there are many ways that God does show us these things, but sometimes it doesn’t seem very clear. Honestly, maybe it’s more common that we just aren’t listening. The reality

Why You Should Pray Scripture Every Day

For some reason, when I started Middle School I decided to try out for the basketball team.  I was horrible at basketball.  I tried out in 7th and 8th grade with no success. As a Freshman in High School, I continued my pursuit of a basketball career.  Finally, I made the team, but it wasn’t because of my skill, it was because I worked the hardest in conditioning and wanted to be on the team more than anybody.  The coach saw something special in me and gave me the last spot on the team. How

Trusting in God’s Promises

Do you ever question God or fail to trust Him completely? I wish I could say that I don’t, but even as a missionary, I’m still human, and I still question God sometimes… A little over a month ago, Life Teen started a new mission base in Houston, Texas, and I am one of five missionaries living and serving here. With a new mission base, there are sometimes more questions than answers and sometimes more things are unknown then things that are certain. I know that in this, God is calling me to trust

We Cannot Give What We Have Not Received

Just recently, I was being overwhelmed by fears of failure and inadequacy. Past insecurities were rising up inside of me.  When I was faced with various obstacles, it was hard to stay grounded in peace and see things clearly; my emotions were uncontrollable. It was like I was back in junior high! I was overwhelmed by the amount of stuff I was doing, and I felt as though I had nothing left to love my community, my girlfriend, or the people I was ministering to. It got to the point where I seriously

Glorify God in Relationships

Have you ever had a crush on someone? You know, how you just think that everything they do is cute. Most of the time, after a little while these crushes go away, but sometimes it turns into a relationship. That is what I want to talk about. I started dating someone a month and a half ago. When I was talking to someone about it from our Covecrest community she asked me a question: what is different about this relationship than your previous one? After our first date, I texted her jokingly saying
