Am I Jen or Peter?

On my 8-day silent retreat I focused on diving deep into the gospels using all my senses and interacting with Jesus. Since I obviously had a lot of time set aside to pray I was able to slowly dive into many of the stories and bring them to life. I couldn’t help but connect with Peter and how much Peter longed to be near to Jesus. The relationship between Peter and Jesus touched my heart so deeply that at times I was living the gospel as Peter. It was an amazing way to learn about Christ on a whole

I LOVE ONE DIRECTION!

Do you ever find yourself saying things like this? Ok, maybe you don’t. Maybe it’s more like: -       I love my new iPhone 5 or iPad or -       I love Call of Duty or -       I love the new Taylor Swift album or -       I love Chick-fil-A or -       I love Starbucks or -       I love hunting and fishing or -       I love to dance I mean, you can fill in the blank, but most, if not all, of us at some point or another have publicly

Singing Jesus Lullabies

We had our 8 day silent retreat the beginning of January and God spoke so clearly and directly to my heart. It was an incredible opportunity to give God everything for 8 days of silence and solitude. Who are you going to talk to but God? We used the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises, following the life of Jesus and placing ourselves by His side at some of the most important moments of His life, ministry and passion. One of my first meditations was on the birth of Jesus. As I imagined Mary holding

You Have A VOICE

God has given us many gifts, blessings, and other things we should be very thankful for. One of these I’ve learned is our voice. I learned how important this truly is over our 8 day silent retreat.  It is such a simple thing yet so important. It’s one of those things we use all the time but we must use it the right way and do it frequently! “No foul language should come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for needed edification, that it may impart grace to those who hear it… Be

Inspiring Confidence

What is it to be a saint? What is it to live a life of holiness? While I know that this will be a question I strive to answer for the rest of my life on earth, I know that through the struggles and trials of this life, God will grant me persistence and perseverance to walk with his Son home. For me, much of being a saint and living a life of holiness is having confidence in God’s promise to us. We cannot work without the Lord working through us. We cannot breathe without the Lord breathing into

It’s the Simple Things

The phrase “It’s the little things in life that matter” hits home with me. Lately, I have begun to enjoy the little things in life much more. I would take a good cup of coffee (or two or three) and a conversation with a friend over a trip to an amusement park most any day. I’m growing in my love for a good book rather than time spent on the internet. And I would choose to play ultimate frisbee any day over watching tv. I’m learning to appreciate the little things, time spent with others and time

God keeps His Promises – Part 1

I have visited Haiti eight times since the devastating earthquake on January 12, 2010.  I had no idea that an earthquake in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere would change my life forever.  I shouldn’t be as shocked as I am since I know God is a Father who keeps his promises. When Michelle and I were married eleven years ago, the first reading at our wedding was Isaiah 58:6-12 which talks about fasting from the steady diet of selfishness we often feed ourselves and instead by reaching

Rejoice in One Another

I want to share the story about Mary and Elizabeth with you all because it is such a beautiful witness as to how we ought to rejoice in one another. I once was given a card that said “comparison is the thief of joy.” How true is this? It is so difficult to recognize and appreciate the goodness in others when we are only focused on wanting others to see the good in ourselves. Luke 1:39-45 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s

Is Life Worth Living?

Is life worth living? With artists like Ed Sheeran, burgers at Five Guys and spending summers going to the Van’s Warped Tour, I’d say yes! Life is great! What college age kid doesn’t love to hang out, throw down a few heelflips on a skateboard (one of the few tricks I can do) and hit up 7 Eleven sucking down Fanta slurpees until three a.m with all your best friends? These are a few ways I have learned to love this place we’re all stuck in called life. I have found joy in friends that share

We are Family!

I have heard for a long time that I am a part of the Body of Christ, but it took me going to Haiti to get a glimpse of what it really meant. While I was on a mission trip in Haiti, I met some girls named Sophie, Kristal and Catlin. They spoke Creole and I spoke English, but through our mutual faith, we found a way to connect. The first time I saw them, I showed up with a couple other missionaries to a community prayer service in their neighborhood. I used the few Creole phrases I had memorized
