Time to start grafting

I am beginning to realize more each day that my life is not my own. That all I am belongs to and is enriched by Christ. For a long time, the phrase “my life is not my own” frustrated me. Of course, I would protests and claim that my life is the only thing that is mine to keep. In all reality though, I knew that was not true. I knew from a very young age that I was meant for more than just living my life for my own satisfaction. Am I freely in control of my life and actions? Yes, but we are certainly

Summer Recap, Sainthood

Over the past eight weeks, I have been blessed to witness the transformation of many lives here at camp, as well as at  Life Teen Convention in Arizona. In the midst of the busyness of camp, I have taken time to reflect on the words Mother Assumpta shared with us at convention. She spoke about sainthood, and the fact that we are all called to be the saints of the church of today. She reminded each of us of our need for daily prayer and silence before the Lord. So often, I encounter “holy people’

Have you encountered Christ?

Two weeks ago thirteen missionaries from Covecrest journey to Haiti to serve alongside Moving with the Spirit, Mission Haiti. They have an orphanage that is about five hours away from Port-au-Prince on bumpy Haitian roads. During our time there we were able to meet many wonderful people. In the midst of one of our home visits, I realized in a very tangible way I was encountering Christ. He was hidden and disguised in the poorest of the poor. One day we hiked through the beautiful country side

Lean In and Love More, Silent Retreat Lessons

Just a few short weeks ago the first year missionaries here at Covecrest completed an eight day silent retreat. It was such a blessed opportunity for each of us. The Lord poured out so many abundant blessings and gifts upon each of the missionaries. I wanted to share a few things that the Lord spoke more clearly to my heart during silence. Each night, we had a conference with Br. John Ignatius, who was leading our retreat. One of the nights about half way through he began to talk about  the need

Frost and Chill, Bless the Lord!

So for the past three days I have been tucked away in the suburbs of Atlanta isolated by a snow storm that struck earlier this week. A few years ago I spent a year serving in Saint Michael Minnesota, where as you can imagine it snowed a great deal. Unlike Atlanta, it was a usual occurrence that never really interrupted the rhythm of life the way the snowy weather has here.  I would say the one main difference between the responses to snow up north and here in Atlanta all lies in the preparations

Saints Speak (part 1)

Over the break, I took some time to find a few saint quotes for a Christmas gift I was giving to a friend, and I just wanted to share a few of them with you. Enjoy! Venerable Pope John Paul II “Love is never defeated” Saint Padre Pio “Prayer is the oxygen of the soul.” Mother Teresa “Many people mistake our work for our vocation. Our vocation is the love of Jesus.” Saint John Eudes “Let us therefore give ourselves to God with a great desire to begin to live thus, and beg Him to destroy in us

Emmanuel, a Hope that we can run to!

No matter the circumstance or situation, He is here, and will always be here! Emmanuel is His promise to each of us, and it is a promise that we can cling to, a hope that we can run to, and a reality that we must aim to believe!

I Almost Forgot!

So in the midst of Mass today, I had a rather simple but quite epic epiphany. After receiving the Eucharist, I knelt in my pew and gazed out the window of the church. It suddenly dawned upon me that the God who created every beautiful mountain that I was gazing at was dwelling within me. Growing up I often struggled with the reality of the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist. I was often confronted by friends, relatives, and anyone willing to talk about the Catholic faith about true presence

Meeting vs. Encounter

This week I have spent a great deal of time thinking about the parable of the Rich Young Man in the Gospel of Luke. In the midst of this parable, a young man meets Christ for possibly the first time, and Jesus asks him to sell all He owns and follow Him. Jesus calls the young man to leave his riches, family, and home so that he can enter the kingdom of heaven. In the midst of this dialogue, I realize that the young man is willing to meet the Good teacher that Jesus is, but is afraid to encounter

Radical Hospitality

So, it has been a little over a month since we arrived here at CoveCrest. It is hard to believe that we have already finished training and are diving more deeply into the life of radical hospitality and service. I love the life here, and am learning to appreciate LifeTeen’s Rule of Life. It is a simple document, full of scripture and based off of Saint Benedict’s Rule of Life, that outlines the life style for all community members.   One of the sections of the rule speaks of radical hospitality,
