Scared of Justice?

I originally wrote this blog right after Osama bin Laden died. I waited to post it because I wasn’t sure how I or others would react to it. In my confusion over everything, I was scared by my own thoughts and feelings over justice. Below I will share some of the things that were running through my mind at that time: So, Osama bin Laden is dead. I have heard many things surrounding this news that leave me confused about how to feel. Coming from a military family, my first reaction was a bit of relief

An Empty Church

This Holy Week was the first one I had ever fully participated in. I had pretty much no idea what to expect. When I walked into Mass on Holy Thursday, I was walking in blindly. The Mass was so beautiful! At the end, however, I was very confused as to why the church was being emptied of all decoration, why the candles were being taken away, and why the Tabernacle was being emptied and left open. When I had it explained to me that it was a representation of the stripping of Christ’s garments, I

Mission: Change

Being a missionary. What does it mean? Many times I have had people tell me, “I could never do the things you do” or “I’m not a missionary.” BUT YOU CAN BE AND YOU ARE! We are all called to be missionary in our everyday lives. So how do we do that? This is a video I made for the campus ministry at Young Harris College. They did a service on mission and asked me to skype in, but the times didn’t work out. So I made this video instead. It’s made specifically for Young Harris, but it can TOTALLY be

Are You At Risk?

Have you ever said a prayer, like in Mass or before a meal, and then realized you have  no idea what you just said? Have you ever said an “Our Father,” then at some point, not know where you actually are in the prayer? Have you ever said a Rosary and found yourself just counting, not actually praying? If you said yes to any of these questions, you may be at risk for a serious condition called PPS, or “Passive Prayer Syndrome.” I first realized I was at risk when, in the car, I made the Sign of

It Was Out of Self-Defense!

Last week, I was at a morning gathering held by one of the parishes we serve. It was quaint little coffee talk after Mass and Adoration. However, for me it turned out to be one of the most troubling experiences in my faith walk. A man sat down next to me about five minutes into the gathering, pulled out his Bible, and promptly began telling me how he was not Catholic, doesn’t agree with the Catholic Church, and that all Catholics don’t read the Bible. I responded with, “On the contrary sir,

Be still? Ben jij gek?

I have never really been a person who handles stillness very well. I was probably one of the busiest people at my college. I am a Musical Theater major and I had a heavy schedule filled with core classes, clubs, and rehearsals. I was always busy and had little time for things outside of my schedule. Ever since I become a missionary, I have had to learn one of the toughest phrases I have ever had to implement into my vocabulary: I am learning how to be still. While we do have a schedule for the mission

Family Ties

The most recent subject of our formation has been the autobiography of St. Therese, Story of a Soul. At first, I was afraid this would be over my head, since I am a little girl from Georgia and St. Therese was an over-scrupulous Carmelite nun who knew her vocation since the age of two. But little did I know how much I would learn from the “Little Flower.” Not soon after I started reading the autobiography, I received and email from both of my aunts. They told me about how my grandmother, who

Look Who’s Stalking Now!

As I continue further and further into my relationship with God, He has made it very clear that He pursues me more than I could ever pursue Him. And if He pursues me this much, why shouldn’t His mother? For those of you who don’t know, Our Lady of All Nations appeared Amsterdam, a little over two hours from where I currently live. Ever since I moved to Germany, she has been stalking me. In fact, she started stalking me before I even knew God wanted me to move to Europe! Pam, my beloved sister

Momma T. Would Be Proud…

On November 13, 2010, a few of us went to Maastricht, Netherlands for their Life Teen Mass and Life Night. They are so awesome! Even though they are small, they are MIGHTY! They really know how to get their kids involved in everything, from serving at Mass, to talking in discussions, to praying! One particular part of the evening that spoke to me was the Bible Study. It wasn’t really the study itself, but an event that happened during the study. One of the teens was sitting next to (what I believed

Meeting the Family

On October 24, Amanda, Pam, and I went to a celebration of sorts in Roermond, a city in the Netherlands. It was a fabulous occasion! Not only was the parish celebrating five years as a Life Teen parish, but an entire family came into the Church. The children were baptized and received their First Communion, the mother was confirmed, and their marriage was blessed by the Church! In addition to that, three teens also received the sacrament of Confirmation. PRAISE GOD!   This parish is also the
