A little while ago, I wrote a blog about simplifying my life and about how the simple things in life truly matter. I talked about how I’m beginning to enjoy and appreciate the little things in life. But I’m starting to think of other little things, and just how much the little things matter. The little things that I’ve begun to think more about are the little things in our Christian lives that we skip over and think of as unimportant or just think that they don’t matter that much.
Just last week, one of my missionary sisters called me out for breaking a traffic law simply because I didn’t see a cop. And just recently, one of my missionary brothers called me out on playing a game to win, rather than living with integrity and playing the game with complete honesty.
It truly got me thinking. Do the little things in our Christian life matter? Do we live our lives for Christ in just the big ways or in all ways? Does it matter if I sin in the little ways or can I just get by without doing the “big ones”? It all matters! We cannot truly call ourselves Christian if we just try to get by and only do 80% of the work. This isn’t school, and our salvation isn’t a grade. It’s all or nothing. As the Lord says in the Book of Revelation, “‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth.” (Rev. 3:15-16) We cannot live our lives just getting by, especially if we tolerate or even give into those little sins. It’s too important. Our salvation is on the line. I am ready to finally give up all the little things that I tolerate in my life. Are you?
