What is love? No not the song, but today in our society we feel that love is a box of chocolates, a dozen roses, or sneaking out to your sweet hearts house in the middle of the night. I got news for ya’ll, this is not love. Love is the cross; it’s Christ! “Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love” (1 John 4:8). Boom! It’s right there, God is love! So, now we know what love is but how do we show it? We must love one another. To love someone is to be Christ to them. Since we are God’s children, His beloved, we are direct creatures of love, worthy of love and respect from each other, no matter who they are. Now, I know some of ya’ll want proof- I got you! Check 1 John again, “Beloved, If God so loved us we also must love one another” (1 John 4:11). Its black and white! If ya wanna know something about love, 1 John 4:7-21 is absolute gold when it comes to knowing love.
So, we love each other… What do we get? We still can’t see God. True! But when we love one another, God’s love is perfected in us. He remains in us. It’s beautiful, God in us, and each other. We see God right in front of us, those that we help and love. We are showing our love for God through others. We love God so we can love one another.
“But I’m afraid to love” you might be saying. Watch out! More scripture coming at ya. “There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment, so one who fears is not yet in perfect love” (1 John 4:18). Dang, I love the Bible so much. We are truly creatures of love and it’s so rad that the theme this year is fearless. Be fearless. Love fearlessly.
What I’m getting at I guess is what it is I got out of finding this love. God would tell me “I love you” and naturally I would say “I love you too.” He then said “If you do then give me your heart.” What? How? It took a while to figure out God wasn’t gonna have me rip my heart out of my chest. But what I learned is that if we are to love God we must love one another… Everyone. We strive to love like Christ; seeing Him on that cross brought me to another scripture “We love because He first loved us” (1 John 4:14). How can we not love one another? We will give him our hearts, but it must be fearless and selfless.
To know God is to know love. We do this by giving ourselves, not so people see us, but so they see Him. Trust me, people don’t need Robbie, they need Christ. I can give them God by seeing Him in everyone around me and loving them the way Christ did upon the cross. I challenge you to do this, compliment people, hold doors open, see the face of God in everyone around you. Be fearless and love like crazy.
