God has given us many gifts, blessings, and other things we should be very thankful for. One of these I’ve learned is our voice. I learned how important this truly is over our 8 day silent retreat. It is such a simple thing yet so important. It’s one of those things we use all the time but we must use it the right way and do it frequently! “No foul language should come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for needed edification, that it may impart grace to those who hear it… Be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ (Ephesians 4:29-32)”.
Christ calls us to live our lives for the Gospel, to proclaim the good news. This isn’t just to people we’ve never met but to everyone. Our lives should be always evident of the Gospel, for everyone to see. If you look around today’s society one could say us Christians haven’t been up to par on our baptismal call. Our society can be explained as one of death, sin, and immorality. Close to 2 billion people on this earth claim to be Christian. As Catholics, I believe the time is now for us to act like it. Like the Catholic men and women we’re called to be. Now, I’m not condemning anyone here, trust me I’m guilty of this too. Imagine what the world would be like if we stood up and used our voices.
It’s easy to go with the flow of what’s popular in our culture. It’s comfortable; we feel it’s alright because everyone’s doing it. This doesn’t make it right, as Pope Benedict XVI said “The world will promise you comfort, but you weren’t made for comfort, you were made for greatness”. Imagine if instead of people carrying on in negativity, putting each other down, living in sin and death we stood up and lived our faith. Standing up for one another, positively pulling each other up instead of pushing them down, living for life and truth. Just think how different this world would be. Here’s the kicker, this is very possible! 2 BILLION People claim to be Christians. If that many people live out there faith, we can change the world. So brothers and sisters, I pray that we can stand up and accomplish this, realize our baptismal calls and live for Christ. You have a voice, USE IT.
Bless the Lord
