Trusting in God’s Promises

Do you ever question God or fail to trust Him completely? I wish I could say that I don’t, but even as a missionary, I’m still human, and I still question God sometimes… A little over a month ago, Life Teen started a new mission base in Houston, Texas, and I am one of five missionaries living and serving here. With a new mission base, there are sometimes more questions than answers and sometimes more things are unknown then things that are certain. I know that in this, God is calling me to trust Him more, but I also know that that’s easier said than done.

Lately, it has been easy for me to become frustrated with things instead of trusting in God’s plan for our community and our mission. Through some different conversations, I was reminded to go back to the truths of what God has promised and find rest and peace in those promises. As I spent some time in prayer over the weekend, I realized that I had been avoiding even thinking about God’s promises because I was afraid that even His promises wouldn’t make me happy, wouldn’t completely satisfy me.

I was wrong.

God promises us so many things that will fulfill us and bring us peace! Here are just a few of His promises:

  • I love you. [John 15:9, Jeremiah 31:3]
  • I chose you. [John 15:16]
  • I have a plan for you. [Jeremiah 29:11]
  • I will heal the brokenhearted. [Psalm 147:3]
  • I will fight for you. [Exodus 14:14]
  • I will wipe every tear from your eyes. [Revelation 21:4]
  • I am always with you. [Matthew 28:20]
  • Your grief will become joy. [John 16:20]
  • I will give you the power of the Holy Spirit. [Acts 1:8]
  • I will never forget you. [Isaiah 44:21]

Wow. God is so good to us! After all of those promises, the following Bible verse really tied it all together for me:

“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” – Psalm 37:4

He will give me the desires of my heart! He will give you the desires of your heart.

Now, God didn’t say that He would give them to me the way that I expect Him to or the way I think is best. But, that’s probably good because He’s God and He probably knows better than I do anyways. I am so thankful to know that God loves me so much that He wants to give me my heart’s desires, even if it’s hard to wait on His timing or to trust in His ways!

God has made many promises to you! Take a look at the list above or check out Scripture to find many more. How is God calling you to trust Him and to believe more fully in His promises in your life today? Feel free to leave a comment below – I’d love to hear how God is moving in your life!
