I’ve made it. After nearly two weeks, things are starting to get settled here at Covecrest, my lovely new home.
It has been quite the journey getting here, and as much as I would like to jump in and share what’s happened so far, I think I should start with how I got here.
In June I was in Phoenix for the Catholic Youth Ministers Conference, CMYC. I was in a place where I had no idea what to do next. I wasn’t making any progress changing majors all the time in college. My relationship of three years was comfortable, but not moving forward. The only thing inspiring me was youth ministry. Life Teen’s theme for the year is Radiant Joy. We are all loved and saved by Christ. That is cause for more joy than we are capable of expressing. Over the course of the conference, I realized how I needed to radiate joy every day.
This is the state I was in when Chris Benzinger took the stage and began telling us about the Life Teen Missions program and the specific need for men to answer the call to missions. He explained more about life as a missionary with Life Teen: community, rhythm of prayer, formation, and service. I was seeking these things, but had never thought I could find them all in one place. I truly felt the presence of God come over me and tell me that this is where He wanted me. What I needed to do had never been so clear.
From there, everything just fell into place. I visited Camp Covecrest, where I will be living for the next year.
I immediately felt at home. For the rest of the summer I gathered mission partners, people who would join me on this mission through their prayers and financial support. The whole time though, I wanted to be here, starting this incredible journey. It is still hard to believe that this is my life. God has already done amazing things in these first two weeks, and He has much more in store.
I’ll see you all in Communion!
