Meeting the Family

On October 24, Amanda, Pam, and I went to a celebration of sorts in Roermond, a city in the Netherlands. It was a fabulous occasion! Not only was the parish celebrating five years as a Life Teen parish, but an entire family came into the Church. The children were baptized and received their First Communion, the mother was confirmed, and their marriage was blessed by the Church! In addition to that, three teens also received the sacrament of Confirmation. PRAISE GOD!

This parish is also the home parish of one of my best friends, past Life Teen missionary and current seminarian, JJ Hussem. This was also a very exciting moment for me because I was able to meet his entire family (mother, father, two sisters, three brothers, brother-in-law, and his sister’s boyfriend), who I had been hearing wonderful things about for almost a year. I realized as I was meeting member after member that we were already family. We have always been a family in Jesus Christ! As I thought about this, I realized that my family back in Georgia and North Carolina are in the family. Your family is in the family. The family that came into the Church was finally meeting the family. They came home to a joyful celebration! We are all united by the Body and Blood of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

So, next time you are lonely or away from your biological family, head to Church! The biggest family of all is waiting anxiously for your arrival!
