Made in His Image

This past week I started reading Captivating, by John and Stasi Eldredge. Yesterday I was reading about how women bear the image of God. I have so often heard that we were made in the image and likeness of God, but I realized that maybe I have never really stopped to think about what that really and truly means. The book was saying that if God made women in His image, then we have to look at what God wanted to reveal to us about Himself through the gift of Eve. Several examples are given of what Eve reveals to us about God’s identity, but the one that stuck with me the most was how God is relational. God desires to be loved by us. Not only does God want to love us, but He desires for us to love Him. I never really thought about how God is like women (more like, how women are like God) in the desire to be loved. When I think of the naturally loving and tender heart of a woman, it is comforting to think that my God is also like that. I have found it interesting to ponder how my identity as a woman can reveal more about the identity of God.
