A warrior’s story

Dear all,
I want to share with you all a warrior story, a story about our faith, which an awesome youth minister read to her confirmation teens while on retreat here at Covecrest. Christ speaks to us through these words; and it’s meant to move us into action, to build up His Kingdom, and to lead others closer to Christ.

This is a story of a man in northern Africa who was working in a factory. It is a great example of a warrior, a soldier. Every day he would take his Bible with him to work. He was persecuted daily for doing so. Finally a day came when someone told him that if he brought his Bible to work with him again, he would be killed. He went home and prayed that night. The next day he went to work with his Bible and he was consequently murdered.

When people cleaned out the place where he lived, there barely was anything there. He had very few possessions. However, there was one thing they found, a paper taped to the back of his door. They later learned that he read this paper every morning before going to work… This is what it said:

I am part of the fellowship of the unafraid.
The die has been cast, the decision has been made.
I have stepped over the line.
I won’t look back, let up, slow down, back away or be still.
My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, and my future is secure.
I don’t have to be right, first, tops, recognized¬† praised, regarded or rewarded.

Lean on His presence, love with patience, live by prayer and labor with power.
My face is set, my gait is fast, and my goal is Heaven.
My road is narrow, my way is rough.
My companions are few, my guide reliable, and my mission is clear.
I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, divided or delayed.
I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice or hesitate in the presence of adversity.
I won’t give up, shut up, let up, or slow up,
Until I have stayed up, stirred up, paid up and spoken up for the cause of Christ!

I must go until He comes, give until I drop, preach until I know and work and work until He stops me.
And when He comes for His own, He will have no problem recognizing me.
My banner is clear,
I am part of a fellowship
of the UNAFRAID!

This text spoke to my heart. When we’re not tepid in our faith, not ‘ashamed’ of our faith, what withholds us to proclaim the Word of the Lord, this TRUTH to everyone around us? It is fear. But fear of what? To be ridiculed, to be laughed at, the scorn we’d possibly receive, the weird looks we’d get… This man lived in a hostile country where Christianity was not particularly tolerated. This happens all over the Arab world and north Africa, but also in some Asian countries and it seems that Europe and it’s atheist attitude becomes more and more reluctant to be exposed to truth. Truth is confronting, challenging, it pokes your conscience. We need to be bold, we are His instruments here on earth. How can we not but speak of what He has done for us? We have LIFE because of Christ! When we remain in the Sacraments, prayer and community, there is NOTHING that can stop us, because “if God is for us, who can be against us?” (Rom. 8:31). Perfect love casts out all fear! I will not be silent concerning my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Know that I’m praying for you all and feel free to email me any prayer intentions you have!
