“Follow Me”

“Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

These words from Christ really struck me yesterday in formation. “Follow me.”  In reflecting on this mission year so far, I began thinking about the initial time when Christ called me to serve Him in this way.  A simple, come and follow me, from the Lord sparked me to drop what I had been doing and see where He wanted me to go.  Praise the Lord for this because my life before this call was all about my selfish wants and desires, not about following Christ, who knows what is best for me.

I like to think about the Apostles when Christ first called them to follow Him.  They were everyday ordinary men who were working.  Christ found them and said to them:

“Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

They heard His words, jumped out of their boats, and followed Him with no clue of what was to come.  I can totally relate to this.  I’ve heard Christ call me, and through prayer He has given me the strength to jump out of the boat and follow Him.  I had no clue what was going to happen by jumping out of the boat, but Christ has blessed me so much by following Him, leading me towards holiness.  I’ve learned that my vocation is to love at all times.  He will lead me where He desires me to go, and I will follow.  Right now, in serving God as a missionary at Covecrest, I am called to follow Christ by loving, loving Him and loving all people.  When August 15th comes around and this year commitment is done, I don’t know where the Lord will lead me next, but I will continue to follow His voice, recognizing ways that He might be calling me to serve Him.  Right now, I desire to listen to His words from the Gospel, learning how to truly live as He calls us to.

In reflecting on this mission year so far, the words “Follow Me” came rushing into my mind.  I feel that the Lord really wants me to constantly remember these words.  In all times and in all situations, I need to hear the Lord saying “Follow Me.”  These words of Christ are what I need to have engrained in my heart and mind.  I’ve truly learned that God just pours out blessings and generously provides when you jump out of the boat and follow.  In following the Lord, He leads us away from sin and darkness, He leads us into Light and freedom from sin, and He shows us how to be more like Him, how to truly love.

I’ve experienced so many joys from following the Lord.  Certainly, I have so much room for improvement.  Daily, I fail in following Him.  This is room for growth.  The Lord takes those times we fail and redeems them.  He uses them to for us to grow and to form our hearts.  In following the Lord, He has formed my heart in such a way that I really recognize His love for me, that He embraces me as a son, and that He desires me to love as He loves.
