Come AWAKE!!!

COME AWAKE!!

Not only a line from a Matt Maher song, but also the name of an Edge Retreat that we helped out at Tepeyac this weekend.

Let’s rewind back to Friday morning when we were staining the newly built paintball building for a work project. Haha funny story!
So things you shouldn’t do when painting the top half of the shed:
1. Don’t use a cheap ladder that has plastic feet on the bottom.
2. Don’t use the wrong angle when first climbing the ladder.
If you do these things, this awesome ladder will be sure to fall while you are on it and you could end up like me – with a possible bruised rib and some scratches.

Praise the Lord for His angels watching over me and their protection.

So back to the retreat! This retreat was well rounded and very thought out for the weekend. Beth Davis, I tip my hat to you!
Besides all of the awesome icebreakers that are still making me want to throw up as I write this, the talks were well developed and spoke to the Edge groups. The talks were based off of the Scripture verse John 14:6: “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.” The youth responded to it very well. To see these youth at the end of the weekend on fire with truth and wanting more of it was inspiring. I really do think we have prepared some fertile ground for the Holy Spirit to plant a seed in the hearts of these youth. Beth made sure that the youth got to receive some Sacramental graces throughout the weekend as well. The weekend was jammed packed with Mass, Reconciliation, and Adoration. I think no middle school retreat would be without these. We put a challenge before these middle school youth to really grow in their faith and I think they really stepped up to the challenge.

For the commissioning talk, or the kick ‘em in the butt talk, Beth used a perfect verse from the book of Jeremiah:

1:4-6 “The Word of the Lord came to me thus:
Before i formed you in the womb i knew you,
Before you were born I dedicated you,
a prophet to the nations I appointed you.
“AHHH, Lord God !!!” I said,
“I know not how to speak; I am too young.”

But the Lord answered me,
Say not,” I am too young.
To whomever I send you , you shall go;
whatever I command you, you shall speak.”

How often do we feel too young? That we are unable? Lord I pray that you empty me so whatever you command me, I will speak. These youth on the retreat are our mission field. By being present to them, we can show them the importance of living out their faith – not hiding behind their age.
Pray this prayer with me now: Lord Jesus, grant me the grace to empty myself and be filled with Your love, peace, patience, compassion, mercy, forgiveness and understanding. Let every beat of my heart and every breath that I breathe be for You. Let every word that I speak be reflective of You. Let every glance I give be a mirror of You. Let every hand I touch feel Your gentle care. Let every step I take be on Your path toward Your Light. Let every word of praise I may receive be directed to You in humble thanksgiving. Let every angry word said to me or against me be returned with words of love and mercy not anger and revenge. Let every desire I have be for You. Let my will conform to Yours. Touch every cell of my body, Lord, and make me the person, the servant You want me to be. Amen.
