HOLY SPIRIT YOUTH MINISTER JOB DESCRIPTION
The Youth Minister plans, organizes, and implements the youth ministry program for grades 7-12, as well as coordinating the program for those preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Youth Minister is responsible for providing youth with spiritual support and formation that integrates adolescent catechesis into a comprehensive ministry to, with, by and for young people with the purpose of inspiring and empowering our youth to live as disciples of Jesus Christ. Deeply rooted and centered on Jesus’ call to discipleship, the Youth Minister must be blessed with a strong love of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. He/She must possess a solid understanding of Church teachings, Catholic morality, and adolescent catechesis. The Youth Minister should possess great energy and a vibrant faith so that they can strive to live out their call as a disciple in their daily lives in order to lead, by example, the young people of the church.
The Holy Spirit Youth Ministry Director’s job includes, but is not limited to:
• Teaching, directing, and leading the youth of Holy Spirit, grades 7th-12th. You will be responsible for using the Life Teen and Edge programs to plan the schedule and curriculum for each year.
• Leading and coordinating the Confirmation class using the Chosen Program.
• Guiding and training the core team- these are the adult volunteers that teach and lead the teens along with the youth minister
• Informing parents of the events and activities going on for the youth
• Planning and implementing retreats, trips, service projects, and outings
• Developing and putting on fundraisers for any special activities for the youth
• Attending bi-weekly staff meetings and monthly parish council meetings
Holy Spirit Catholic Church was established nineteen years ago, and is a very active and thriving parish in the Diocese of Lubbock, TX. There are 1,800 registered families in the parish with an average around 175 youth (7th-12th grades) that attend the Life Teen and Edge programs. The youth are very involved within the parish from serving at mass, to volunteering for Vacation Bible School, to singing in the choir. The parish and youth group has continued to grow over the years, and is an extremely welcoming and family-oriented community. The Holy Spirit Parish has come a long way in a very short amount of time. From the beginning its goal has been to live up to its motto “A house of welcome and a place of service to all.” Through its vibrant ministry, the parish community continues to be a living example of being Christ to one another.
