Job Type: Full-Time Position
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
MissionCorps Members are women ages 21 + up who live in community in Maggie’s Place maternity homes with up to 7 pregnant women and newborns and 3-4 other MissionCorps for a 1 year commitment. Our MissionCorps are passionate about supporting women and families in crisis through direct action, and during your year of service you will be the hands and heart of our mission at Maggie’s Place.
We believe that showing love to each individual mom is what makes our mission work, and you will first and foremost be that community-builder: living in the homes alongside moms and other MissionCorps, sharing meals, doing chores, celebrating accomplishments, and working through hard things together. You’ll take initiative in a variety of situations that range from a mom going into labor, to roommate conflicts, to showing hospitality to visitors when you just want to sit down for five minutes. We will provide continual training, but you will need to be confident in your ability to learn quickly, recover from mistakes, and give and receive healthy feedback. Each MissionCorps Member is in charge of either keeping their donations supply organized, building relationships with our general volunteers, or crafting fun and instructive programming for moms. We see our MissionCorps flourish in professional development, personal growth, and spiritual formation.
You will be serving in one of our homes in Phoenix for the August 2017-2018 commitment year, with the option to recommit for a second year. We support the MissionCorps with free room & board, health insurance, a $550 monthly stipend, a weekly day off, 24 vacation days & 3 personal retreat days per year, a gym membership, an annual community retreat, access to agency vehicles, monthly professional training & spiritual formation, group & individual counseling options, and a strong community prayer life. Option for substantial stipend increase after 1 year of service. Applicants are expected to be at least 21 years of age with a college degree or equivalent life experience. Applicants should be in adequate physical, mental, and emotional health and be able to lift and carry 30lbs, hold babies, climbs stairs, respond to emergencies in the home, and operate a vehicle.

Maggie’s Place is a nonprofit based in Catholic social teaching that serves homeless pregnant and parenting women through maternity homes and ongoing support. We operate 4 homes in the greater Phoenix, AZ area and 1 home in Cleveland, OH, as well as an Alumnae Mom Outreach Center, a small apartment complex for moms reunifying with older children, and Maggie’s Thrift in Arizona. Moms may come to Maggie’s Place at any point in their pregnancy and stay 9-12 months after the baby is born. During their stay, they receive physical, mental, and emotional support through access to maternity, infant, and home supplies as well as food; regular family coaching from a social worker and mentoring from a MissionCorps Member; weekly counseling; parenting classes; child enrichment opportunities; community-building events; and life skills support. When moms move out of the homes, they become Alumnae Moms and are able to continue receiving support through the Alumnae Outreach Center free of charge.
