The Diocese of Orlando is actively seeking a Director of Youth Ministry to help parishes be truly open to the personal, social, and spiritual needs of young people. This person animates leadership, fosters mature discipleship, and promotes vibrant communities of faith within the context of comprehensive, lifelong, and ongoing discipleship. The primary aim of this position is to support parishes in developing and managing catechetical initiatives that promote knowledge of the faith, spirituality of prayer, the Sacraments, moral living, community life, and missionary spirit.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Formulates, communicates, and furthers the vision/priorities of adolescent catechesis and evangelization with youth throughout the diocese as is the desire of the bishop.
Analyzes needs/trends affecting youth ministry within the broader perspective of evangelization and regularly reports on findings.
Provides resources and programming designed to vitalize and expand youth ministry formation throughout diocesan parishes, missions, and extra-parochial entities.
Employs various methods to educate (and retain) those with leadership responsibilities over adolescent catechesis and ministry through interaction with parish catechetical professionals (including parish youth ministry leaders), volunteer catechists, other stakeholders to increase awareness, advocacy, and support for youth ministry and to advance its vibrancy in the local parish-setting.
Serves as a specialist, in collaboration with other members of the secretariat and diocesan chancery, with regard to catechesis sacramental initiation involving adolescents.
Oversees the collaboration of the secretariat directors to seed, encourage, and support parish-based ministry aimed toward emerging adults ages 18-40 (particularly to those making the transition from families of origin to independence – whether college or career-bound).
Supervises full-time, non-exempt Administrative Assistant shared with Director of Catechist Formation.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
Practice of the Catholic faith is required.
Master’s degree in Theology, Ministry, Catechetics, or equivalent.
Five years practical parish-level ministry leadership experience.
Two years practical diocesan-level ministry leadership experience.
Appropriate English language speaking and writing ability for a person in an executive position. Fluency in Spanish is considered a plus.
Possesses the ability to interact effectively in a broad range of situations and deal with the pressure of time and changing conditions.
Demonstrates leadership and resourcefulness as they apply to all areas of responsibility.
Knows and understands the Church’s catechetical documents and publications.
Able to participate in diocesan, regional, national, and/or other projects as assigned.
