St. John the Baptist Parish in Folsom, CA, currently home to one of the largest and most vibrant youth and young adult ministry programs in the region, is seeking to hire an well-qualified Associate Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry. Serving the demographics of middle school, high school, and young adults, the principal duties in this full-time, exempt position are to 1) Coordinate the high school youth ministry program (currently Lifeteen). 2) Coordinate the parish young adult ministry program. 3) Work closely with the DRE in the development and coordination of the parish confirmation program and middle school ministry.
The candidate must have fidelity to the teachings of the the Catholic Church, as well as demonstrable understanding of the Catholic Church’s mission in the Diocese of Sacramento and St. John the Baptist parish. The candidate should be familiar with, and faithful to, all USCCB and diocesan guidelines promulgated for youth and young adult ministry. The candidate should possess basic understandings of youth ministry principles, methods of youth evangelization, principles and methods of adolescent catechesis, principles and models of youth retreats, adolescent development, leadership development, youth ministry resources and their application to adolescents, and knowledge of diocesan and national guidelines and trends in youth ministry.
The ideal candidate will have a willingness to share in the charism St. John the Baptist himself, to capably and joyfully ‘introduce’ young people to the saving Lamb of God. As such, he or she will be especially Eucharistic. He or she will possess the ability to address modern issues relevant to young people with the Mind and Heart of the Church. Familiarity with the theologies of St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Therese of Lisieux, John Paul II – as well as ernest devotion to the Blessed Mother – are especially helpful to this end.
Candidates should possess basic organization and management skills – as well as strong leadership abilities and effective communication skills. Basic computer, graphic design, and video editing skills are a must. Candidates should have the ability to work charitably and collaboratively with others, to react positively to adversity, and to work closely with a pastor who is energetic, involved, passionate, and direct.
Education, Training, and/or Experience:
BA (required) or MA (preferred) in Philosophy, Theology, or related field.
Catechist or Master Catechist certification (or equivalent) preferred.
Candidates should have, at minimum, two years working in leadership capacity with teenagers in parish setting, including the successful development and implementation of one or more components of a holistic youth ministry program.
Commensurate with qualification and experience, the annual starting salary ranges from $45,000 to $51,000 with full benefits and pension available.
St. John the Baptist Parish, located in beautiful Folsom, California, is home to over 4,000 families. With a longstanding commitment to treasuring the youth of our Church, there are over 250 regular attendees of our high school and young adult ministries combined – and an average of 200 confirmation students per year.
