Now What?

As the August Edge Support box rolls into your parishes, I know many of you are in the frenzy of kicking off your semester and getting fall ministry rolling. This time of year is one of the most exciting and most stressful times in your ministry – there are a million things to do so I am here to offer you a productive break to the busyness.

Grab a cup of coffee, or tea, or Red Bull (yes Red Bull in a cup because you are classy) and take a stroll down to your parish office to get your new Edge Box. For some, your first instinct is to take the box and put it in your “I will get to that later” pile or maybe you just open the box and put everything on the shelf. Shout out to all of you who open the box like a five-year-old on Christmas and proceed to play with the toy. For those of you who think you might be too busy to deal with new materials now, here are three reasons why you should.

1. Awesomeness Should Not Be Ignored

This rule goes for most things in life – like how could you possibly ignore that sprinkle donut in the kitchen, or the new Taylor Swift album, or better yet the video of Mark Hart and nuns singing Taylor Swift. But this also applies to your Edge Support Box. This box was crafted specifically for you and jam-packed with awesomeness. It might not be material you will implement this semester – but if you don’t open it, you might miss some gem that fits in perfectly with God’s plan for your ministry right now.

2. It is Relevant to Now

I don’t know if you noticed or not, but there was a pretty huge decision made regarding the definition of marriage. This may have left your youth confused about sexuality, and same-sex attraction. Well don’t worry – we’ve got you covered. Your newest Amplify features an Edge Issue Night on how to help your youth learn healthy boundaries in their relationships and what the Church teaches on same-sex attraction. I know that things like this are never the first choice for most youth ministers, but someone’s got to bring on the truth so it might as well be you!

3. Give Yourself a (Productive) Break

You are busy, and all you want to do is curl up in a corner with your cup of Red Bull (again, just so classy) and take a break from the chaos. But how can you justify such a break in the midst of all your ministries demands? Well, now you can. Grab your Edge Box and head to your cozy corner chair and take 15 minutes to glance through the treasure trove of new Edge materials. Let your mind take a break from the now and take notes on how you can use the material this semester or in the future. See now it’s a productive break…then take a nap (just kidding, but not really).

Thank you for all you do at your parish and for your middle school youth. You are the ones in the trenches of the crazy awesomeness that is Edge, and we are all so thankful for your commitment and love. We sincerely hope you enjoy your newest Edge Box and please let us know if there is anything more we can do to support you in your ministry. May God bless you abundantly this semester!
