Take the Risk

2012-12_LT-Risk

This isn’t just about dating; I think that a lot of us guys have become so afraid of awkwardness that we never take risks. We’re not sure how we might appear if we take a stand for our faith, so we keep silent when the Church is mocked. We know that we’re not perfect ourselves, so we feel too hypocritical to challenge someone else for something that they’re doing or saying that is wrong.

Mayan Mayhem: Are We Gonna Die Young?

2012-12_LT-MayanMayhem

Christ Himself told us that nobody knows the day or the hour that He will return to judge the living and dead on earth. Not the Mayans, not a television preacher, and certainly not Ke$ha. This means that tomorrow Christ could show up. Would your soul be ready, or would you wish you had more time? The truth about “living like you are going to die young,” is that we should be living like today is our last day, but realizing that there is eternal life after death. We should be making the most of our lives today – but not through sin, but virtue.

Election Aftermath

2012-11_LT-ElectionAftermath

It got old watching TV ads about why “Politician A” is so awful and why “Politician B” is practically a canonized saint.

I got sick of opening my mailbox only to throw away multiple print ads everyday.

I got tired of the mud-slinging, name-calling, and lying that seems to spread through every election I’ve voted in.

Finally it’s over! I can get back to my normal life, and my friends can get back to posting more pointless memes on Facebook.

The Friend Zone: Are you always her friend and never her boyfriend?

2012-10_LT-FriendZone

In high school I was one of those “nice Christian guys,” you know, the guy who was always the good friend, but not the boyfriend. I used to complain with my other “nice guy” friends about being put into the friend zone, that awkward place when you have feelings for a girl but she just wants to be friends. I’ve been called “a good friend,” “like a brother,” and “a catch . . . for someone else.”

Goodbye Victoria’s Secret: An Interview with Kylie Bisutti

2012-10_LT-GoodbyeVS

She had her dream job . . . and she was only 19. Kylie beat out 10,000 other women when she won the Victoria’s Secret Model Search back in 2009. She travelled the world modeling lingerie as a Victoria’s Secret Angel but Kylie realized it wasn’t everything she had hoped it would be, especially as a married woman. So last Spring she said “peace out Victoria’s Secret!”

Stop Yelling At Me

2012-10_LT-StopYelling

I sat up straighter. Everything I’d ever read about apologetics and answering peoples’ complaints about the Church started running through my mind at full speed. I was like a lion ready to pounce on any reason she said, convince her she was wrong and corral her back to the Church . . .

An Open Letter to My Sisters This Halloween

2012-10_LT-LEtterSisters

It takes you from the powerful, inspiring, and awesome person that you are to a mere object of lust. You are already beautiful and deserve better than that. When you show cleavage and your legs with mini costumes, it is those parts of your body that are emphasized (by design). It sends the message that the most valuable thing about you is the body parts you’re putting on display.

Everything I Know About Love I Learned From Taylor Swift

2012-10_LT-RedTaylor

If you haven’t listened to T-Swift’s new album Red, go clear your schedule and come back to this blog later. My words will be empty and boring if you aren’t hearing the refrain of “All too well” or “Treacherous” on repeat in your head.

If you have been listening to her album, courtesy of iTunes, Target, a Papa John’s Pizza, or a YouTube playlist, then we are definitely friends. (If you participated in any sort of countdown to Red, you’re instantly elevated to best friend status.)

Miss Swift’s album is about more love and heartbreak than I’ve ever experienced. Like, ever.

The 5 Phrases of a Cell Phone Addict

2012-10_LT-PhoneAddict

Being able to put your phone down and not let life pass you by will certainly help you grow in virtue. God uses all things to reach us, but the twitter account named after Jesus isn’t actually Him. Remember, grace doesn’t come in megabytes. God wants to show His face and His heart to you; don’t give Him the busy signal. Be available when He comes to you.

Accepting the Challenge from Blessed JP2: Be Not Afraid

JP2_Wallpaper_iPhone_(640x960)

I believe that Pope John Paul II was one of the greatest Popes to have ever served the Church. History has shown him to be a man who can be all things to all people. He was an athlete, an actor, a writer, a priest, a bishop, an activist and most of all a follower of Christ . . . In terms of leadership and bravery, William Wallace has nothing on this guy. During the years of Pope John Paul II’s service to the Church, he encountered many things that would make the average person run and hide.

Where’s My Prince Charming?

2012-10_LT-PrinceCharming

Eventually the topic of guys comes up, and, on occasion, girls begin to complain about how there aren’t any good guys left or that guys today aren’t respectful or they don’t open doors. Somehow as women we’ve created an expectation that guys, to be worthy of us, must look, act, and sing, like Prince Charming . . .

Do You Have Insecurities?

2012-10_LT-Insecure

Read that above quote again. This is a message of freedom. This is a message of hope. Brothers and sisters, we are free. Any feelings of shame or unworthiness or insecurity that you feel, Jesus took it to the cross. He felt it for you. Those feelings died with Jesus, and when He rose, they were gone.

To live weighed down by insecurities is contrary to the Gospel. We need to strive to embrace the freedom we have in Jesus Christ. The freedom to pursue holiness, the freedom to love, and sometimes the most difficult, the freedom to be loved. You are worthy.

Has Science Disproved God?

2012-10_LT-ScienceGod

This guest post is from Matt Fradd, a Catholic apologist and speaker who has a sweet Australian accent. He’s a convert from Agnosticism. In this blog he gives the reasons why science and God can co-exist – they don’t cancel out each other. If you want to learn more about agnosticism, atheism, and Matt, check out the video about his conversion story at the end of the blog.

Practical Advice for a Pure Life

2012-10_LT-PureLife

For some of us, myself included, telling me not to do something isn’t enough of a reason for me not to do it. It helps to have some insight into why we do what we do. Sex isn’t bad and your desires don’t make you evil. We should seek purity because we know our sexuality is a gift from God and can point us to heaven. In my own journey, I’ve seen the way an impure life can damage hearts, friendships, self-esteems, and souls.

How Far is Too Far?: Purity in Dating

2012-09_LT-HowFarTooFar

This October, my boyfriend and I will celebrate our 1 year anniversary of dating. Needless to say, I’m excited to celebrate the day with a bunch of cheesy romantic gifts and a fancy dinner!

However, as the day comes closer, I find myself reflecting on all the things I’ve learned these last twelve months, especially about how to live a holy and chaste relationship.

Catholics Care About Gays?: The Myth Debunked

Click here to read this blog!

Did you know that the Catholic Church actually cares about homosexuals? I even feel confident saying that we love them alot. I sincerely hope that no one has ever made you think otherwise because they were sorely misled and misinformed . . . and probably unhappy too because of this faulty way of thinking . . .

Gay, Catholic, and Doing Fine

2012-09_LT-GayCatholicFine

So, yes, it’s hard to be gay and Catholic — it’s hard to be anything and Catholic — because I don’t always get to do what I want. Show me a religion where you always get to do what you want and I’ll show you a pretty shabby, lazy religion. Something not worth living or dying for, or even getting up in the morning for. That might be the kind of world John Lennon wanted . . .

My Youth Group is Boring

2012-09_LT-BoringYG

Step up and be a leader. It’s easy to participate if the year’s activities are planned out and all you have to do is show up. But do you have what it takes to work with the youth minister and other members to plan community service and prepare faith formation? It takes commitment and perseverance, especially if you know only a few people will be at meetings.

Real Sex & Respect

2012-09_LT-SexBeforeMarriage

But we live in a world that doesn’t really get that.

A world where people sing songs about how they’re perfectly good at being “bad” and radio edits of songs switch “love” in for the “f” word like there’s no difference. Society has taken something sacred, designed by God to unite couples in the Sacrament of Marriage and cooperate in bringing new life into the world — and categorized it as just another extracurricular activity.

After the Vows: Sex Within Marriage

2012-09_LT-AftertheVow

I’ll never forget what happened at about 2:05pm on April 14. In front of my family, friends, and God, I swore in church. And then the girl standing next to me swore. It wasn’t inappropriate. It wasn’t bad; it was actually a good thing.

We swore that we would love each other faithfully for the rest of our lives and we begged God to seal and strengthen our commitment. We were so excited to get married, but we knew that the sacrament wasn’t just about us.
