A teen girl led a Life Night on a Sunday night at our parish, and a room full of people learned more about an issue they hadn’t know much about before. Then those people went home, learned more, spread the word, and prayed.

And in the middle of the week that followed, that same teen girl got a message from a missionary named Ebie, working in the Philippines, who said that a local pimp had a change of heart for no apparent reason, and hand delivered three young girls to the doorstep of their mission house.

Last Monday I watched protestors fill the streets of Ferguson, most peacefully protesting, some looting and burning businesses. I watched people from all over the world come together in protest. I saw the video of the death of Eric Garner.

I stopped what I was doing, grabbed my Bible and a journal, found an open door to my parish church and sat in the quiet darkness of the church.

And by “look at you,” I assume she doesn’t mean, “look at you while you’re praying the rosary on your evening walk together.”

No, she means either a guy will lust over you or someone else. It’s like saying, “either your boyfriend will be obese or he’ll be anorexic.” Isn’t there a third option? Like, maybe he’ll be healthy? And there is such a thing as sexual health, we call it chastity. Though chastity may conjure up images of either uncomfortable belts or the notion of repressing sexuality in the name of “abstinence”… chastity is neither of these things but so much more.
