Yes, Take Me to Church

So yes, take me to church.

Because I’ve tried everything else and I’m still empty handed, empty hearted.

I’ve worshipped at the throne of a hundred false gods, each promising to fill a bigger and deeper need inside of me. Each promise falling through, letting me down, leaving me searching for more, more, more.

Don’t Wait for Jesus

You see, here’s my thought process… if everyone’s so worried about waiting and preparing for Him, what if they start ignoring Him? What if “preparing” for Jesus turns into buying presents and putting up “better than last years” Christmas lights? What if “waiting” becomes an excuse for spiritual laziness and complacency?

What if Advent flies by and it’s Christmas Eve and your soul is in the same place as it was on November 30th? That’s the real nightmare before Christmas.

The Change Our World Needs

The Holy Spirit is active in the Life Teen movement and lives are being changed across the room, across the street, and across the world. Through God’s grace, our dream has become a reality. Every day we recommit to our mission to “lead teens closer to Christ” because we are confident that in response to the needs of our world, God is going to continue to bless the fruit of our labors. What keeps us going is this reality: Life Teen is an instrument that God is using to make saints.

Catholic Answers to Your Halloween Questions

Sure! There’s nothing wrong with putting on a costume, trick-or-treating, and enjoying the company of your friends and family. Of course, some misled people take the holiday too far and make it more satanic than it should be. However, that’s not a reason for the rest of us Christians to be scared away.

When we decide to be afraid of the devil we give our power over to him. What message does it send the world if we, as Christians, are afraid to admit to the reality of evil? It sends the message that we’re not sure who wins this battle of good vs. evil.

15 Amazing Padre Pio Quotes on the Spiritual Life

I want to share some of that wisdom with you. Here are a couple short quotes from his letters that have left a lasting impact on me.

“Jesus is with you even when you don’t feel His presence. He is never so close to you as He is during your spiritual battles. He is always there, close to you, encouraging you to fight your battle courageously. He is there to ward off the enemy’s blows so that you may not be hurt.” (8/15/1914)

“The storms that are raging around you will turn out to be for God’s glory, your own merit, and the good of many souls.” (6/15/1914)

“Every sacrifice which your soul makes, every good is does is directed to God for the sanctification of all.” (4/2/1917)

“Don’t be daunted by the cross. The surest test of love consists in suffering for the loved one, and if God suffered so much for love, the pain we suffer for Him becomes as lovable as love itself.” (7/14/1914)

25 Reasons to Shake it Off

I’m sure by now you’ve heard Taylor Swift’s new song and if you haven’t I don’t think we can be friends. Just kidding, we can be friends… but the first act of our friendship will be to dance together to Shake it Off. Do you need a reason to shake it off? Not anymore than you need a reason to be awesome!!

You may not need a reason but… there are some times when I would prescribe a good shaking it off as the perfect cure. I’ve put together a list to help you identify the times you should pull a Taylor-Swift-White-Girls-Can’t-Dance dance.

Catholic Movie Reviews: When the Game Stands Tall

The main message of this movie is that in sports as in life you won’t always be the winner. You won’t always be on top. Your true character is defined by how you handle times of victory and times of defeat. The movie does a great job of highlighting the virtue of humility, a quality that really stands out as counter-cultural in sports today.

Why I Tell My Sins to a Person: In Defense of Confession

Every couple of weeks I solemnly walk into a small room where another person is sitting. It kinda feels like a closet, kinda looks like the smallest grandmotherly-parlor-sitting-room you’ve ever seen (complete with appropriate seating and decoration).

We sit there, me and this other person, and have a nice little conversation that consists of me telling them all the things I’ve done wrong recently. It’s a varied, and unexciting list that doesn’t change nearly as often as I change the tone of voice I use to disguise myself. (Don’t judge me. You know you’ve done it too.)
