Next Monday over 450 teens will attend our annual Life Teen Leadership Conference. This year our conference is at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. If you are heading to Kansas for the conference – here are 5 ways you can make sure you have one of the best weeks of your life.

Meet New People
You are attending a conference with hundreds of other top Catholic teens who are mostly all striving to grow in their holiness. Don’t just hang out with the people you are going to the conference with from your parish. Talk to everyone you can – you might be surprised how many new friends and prayer partners you might make.

Take Good Notes
You remember much more of what is said if you write it down. I hear teens quoting presenters from past years over and over again because they took notes and could look it up and share it with others. Be active in listening and active in taking notes – you will be glad you did!

Engage in Full and Active Participation
Ask questions, volunteer if asked, show up for all the sessions on time, share in small groups and enter fully into Mass, Reconciliation and all prayer experiences. The more you put into the week, the more you will take away from it!

Don’t Compare Yourself with Others
Never assume people are better than you, or that you’re somehow not good enough or important. You are. One of ways that the devil plays with our minds is by fooling us into thinking that other people are more holy.

Relax and Have a Good Time
I’ve seen teens take conferences way too seriously. I find that I learn much better if I’m having fun, and enjoying the people I’m with. I’m not saying to be a slacker and only joke around, it’s just that If your relaxed and enjoying your time away, you will normally be more open to new ideas and approaches for what to do when you get back.
Remember your parish is sending you to return with a better sense of what ways you can become a stronger leader for your family, parish, school, team or wherever God is calling you. It is our prayer at Life Teen that the 2010 Life Teen Leadership Conference will transform you and help you to serve God more fully!
